Christopher Northey-Youngs
Christopher H. Northey-Youngs was born in the West Country market town of Tavistock in Devon, and from an early age, he found a passion for music and making people smile. He studied piano and trumpet at an early age, and the arts and creativity beckoned as a possible career, instead, he found himself working for a Bank for thirty years, followed by eight years as a Funeral Director and mortuary worker - now that was a bit of a curved ball!
To compensate for an outlet for his creativity and sense of fun, Chris had many leading roles in theatrical productions, and also played trumpet in a ‘swing band’, and French horn and trumpet in Plymouth University Orchestra, and he often played the Last Post at Tavistock’s Armistice Day Parade and Service.
He has helped friends in their brass bands, taught piano and music theory, and enjoyed his passion, his brass group, for which he did hundreds of bespoke music arrangements.
After taking early retirement he decided to write his first book 'Let's Band Together' which tells the history and story of, and his connection to his local Brass Band and is primarily a cautionary tale regarding social groups, clubs & societies, and the perils of appointing a committee to represent you and run the operation on a day to day basis. His subsequent series of books, 'So Now You Know' is a collection of child-friendly trivia and strange knowledge snippets to entertain, educate, and amuse the reader.
Chris always tries to follow his mantra, “educate and entertain”.
