My name is Lazarus Carpenter and I live in Wales close to the beauty of the Brecon Beacons with my illustrator partner Debbie Eve and our dogs, Minnie and Hardy. Born in North Yorkshire in 1952 I have trod Mother Earth for seven decades, educated in Middlesbrough, Sheffield, and Cambridge. For many years I worked in Mental Health as a therapist and manager. Alternative therapies such as Curative Hypnotherapy, Reiki, Gem Elixir, Pyramids, and Channeling have been an important part of my life for forty years and my spiritual self radiates throughout my storytelling. My hobbies as a folk musician and voice actor have guided my creative self, and I love Celtic history with a passion.
My writing career began in songwriting. It was because of this I published my first book, 'Ballad of Penygraig' which was born firstly in song. Living in a haunted house the story unfurled resulting in the title song, Ballad of Penygraig reaching number one in the Reverb Nation folk charts and earning me first place in the Doncaster Folk Festival songwriting competition in 2015. I self-published the novel later the same year. A radio programme was made about the story, 'On the Trail of the Ballad of Penygraig. In 2017 my 'Crach Ffinnant' series was born, and in 2018 after over 40 rejections the story won a writing competition in America with Words Matter Publishing. The next two titles in the series, 'Rise of the Dragon' and 'Ravens and Dragons' followed.
In 2023 I set out solo as the publisher was unable to publish my work more than one book per year. This was holding back my creativity, and thus with my own publishing house, Swift Arrow Books Ltd, I published the fourth volume in the Crach Ffinnant series, 'Justice Prevails'. I facilitate a weekly creative writing group in our local library recently publishing our first anthology of collected stories, '500 Words.' For the past three years I have my own weekly radio programme, 'Book at Bedtime - Tales from Wales'. Currently I am working on the final book of my 'Crach Ffinnant' series, 'Stronghlod of Illusion'. My latest book under the quill, is 'Walls Have Ears' a history of the most haunted Craig y Nos castle. The book is in two parts, the first detailing the castles history through the 'Eyes of the Walls' written in the first person as a novel rather than a traditional history, whilst the second part tells the stories of the ghosts still walking the corridors. Their stories are gathered through the process of channeling.
