Nancy has always been passionate about education. Her professional journey laid stepping stones with each one paving the way towards her career in public education: first as a Resource Coordinator of a violence and substance abuse prevention project, developing her expertise in teen relationship violence and sexual harassment, second as a Life Skills Counselor, and finally as a high school In-School Counselor. Working with individual students, helping them find their path towards adulthood, was a challenging delight. Building a relationship with each of her students was first on the agenda. Nancy knew that only then would they trust her and seek her guidance. Upon retiring, she continued her work as a Regional College Representative for a private liberal arts college. After that ended, she wrote, The Art of Being a School Counselor: Leading with Confidence, Compassion, and Authenticity as a tribute to her students who shared their lives with her, and because, despite retiring, her passion for education and working with adolescents didn't disappear. Nancy desires that anyone who reads the book, educators [counselors, teachers, administrators, current or in training], parents of secondary-age students, supervisors in any profession, will find their passion, learn how to communicate to guide someone down their pathway. Ultimately, with everyone learning, becoming, and giving their best. The book is pithy, practical, poignant, personal, passionate, and positive. In the end, the goal is to Be more, See more, Do more, Feel more, Give more, and thus Be fulfilled more as they touch the lives of their students.
