Joseph Witchall

Joseph is a professional Illustrator with over ten years experience working on a wide variety of projects with many wonderful and talented authors. "Verdy; A Seed For Change in the City" is his first adventure as a solo writer and illustrator, where he explores his love of nature, the magic he sees in the woodland where he lives and how important he feels it is to look after the environment we inhabit.

Joseph studied Animation at Norwich School of Art and Design, and this combined with a passion for cinema, he tries to translate as much movement and dynamism that he can into his work, so the pictures almost come to life.

Living close to nature in North Devon, Joseph has a passion for wildlife and plants. He draws inspiration from the woods and wild hedgerows, imagining what creatures can be seen hidden in the foliage and burrowing through the tunnels and holes in the undergrowth. This, combined with a passion for wildlife and conservation, and a strong belief in the importance of caring for our environment, lead to his first children's book "Verdy; A Seed For Change in the City".

Joseph illustrates in pencil, then brings out the lines and details with inks and watercolour paint. Joseph feels that the fluid and elemental nature of watercolours lends itself perfectly to capturing the organic forms and textures of plants and wildlife.
