Ramona Thomas M.Ed.

Ramona L. Thomas, M.Ed., is a California author, educator, and literacy advocate who believes every word is an adventure. A proud native Californian, she calls the San Francisco Bay Area home.

Ramona earned an Associate of Arts degree from Contra Costa College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from California State University, East Bay, and a Master of Education degree from Holy Names University. After a successful career in professional sales with Xerox Corporation, she followed her longtime passion for education, teaching, and storytelling.

Her books encourage children to become confident readers while exploring culture, history, identity, nutrition, and the joy of discovering words. Her works include Doctor Wizmagic’s Potion, The Code Switch, and Kyndle Serves Up History: An International Day Soul Food Journey.

Published in May 2025, Kyndle Serves Up History is a middle-grade historical fiction adventure for readers in grades 5–8. Through Kyndle’s research, family conversations, and International Day presentation, readers explore the history and cultural significance of Soul Food. The book includes discussion questions and family recipes, making it an engaging resource for classrooms, families, and independent readers. A companion Teacher’s Guide offers 14 standards-aligned lessons—one for each chapter.

Ramona is also the creator of Elianna’s Short Vowel Adventures™, an early reader series that follows young Elianna as she discovers short vowel sounds and finds smaller words hidden within names and everyday language. The series is designed to help beginning readers build phonics skills, confidence, and a love of words.

Through her books and her It’s Lit Literacy platform, Ramona inspires children to read, discover, and recognize that every word can lead to a new adventure.
