John Trent

John Trent is a two-time Nevada Sportswriter of the Year whose association with the Western States Endurance Run goes back to 1987, when he first covered the race as a journalist. He has been a board member of Western States since 2004, is a past president of the organization, and has finished the Western States 11 times. His writing has been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors, the Nevada State Press Association and Gannett Corp. He lives in Reno, Nevada, with his ultra running family—wife Jill and daughters Annie and Katie. He is the author of Running Toward Life: Finding Community and Wisdom in the Distances We Run (Broad Book Press, 2023), Second Sunrise: Five Decades of History at the Western States Endurance Run (Broad Book Press, 2023), and is the host of the “Running Toward Life” podcast.
