Jade Van Jaarsveld discovered spoken word poetry in her teenage years which inspired her to start writing her own, finding it a particularly therapeutic outlet during stressful and difficult times in her life, as well as a creative way to discuss prominent issues in society. Her poem, 'We, The Homeless', was highly commended in the 2019 Orwell Youth Prize. She is also an aspiring screenwriter/director and studies filmmaking at Birmingham City University. Although born in South Africa, Jade was raised in the UK and currently lives in Shropshire.
