Nikolaos Giannopoulos

Dr. Nikolaos Giannopoulos is a retired Lieutenant General who served for 36 years in the Hellenic Army Special Forces. He commanded the Greek Special Forces and the V Airborne Brigade, served as Director of Intelligence at the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, and was Greece's National Representative to NATO in Naples. His international missions took him to Iraq with the United Nations (UNIKOM), where he was Senior Operations Officer at the Northern Headquarters, and to Bosnia and Libya.

He holds a doctorate from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where his research focused on social exclusion and terrorism. He also holds an MSc in Applied Strategy and International Security from the University of Plymouth and an MSc in Sociobiology, Neurosciences and Education from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His academic work has examined terrorism, organized crime, state-building and the use of game theory in strategic thinking.

He has studied Stoic philosophy since 1995, when he was a young lieutenant. A career of decisions made under pressure, with incomplete information and real consequences, taught him a few principles that hold far beyond the military: focus on what you can influence, decide with what you know, and keep your composure when it counts.

His books follow two paths. The first covers security, terrorism and strategy. The second turns the lessons of command and the practice of Stoicism into practical tools for everyday life: managing stress and overthinking, building resilience, sleeping better, speaking with confidence and raising resilient children. His newest series, Clear Mind Under Pressure, begins with Overthinking and Anxiety.

He writes plainly, for readers who want something they can use the same day. He is not a psychologist or therapist, and his self-help books say so clearly. He lives in Athens.
