Kelly Zhang

Kelly Zhang is a children’s book writer and literary translator (Chinese/English) based in Canada. She draws on her cultural heritage & lived experiences to create heartfelt stories that connect young readers with peoples, cultures, and worldviews beyond their familiar ones.

Kelly is represented by Hilary Harwell of KT Literary. Her debut picture book TAKE ME TO LAOLAO, a lyrical intergenerational tale inspired by Chinese classic poetry and mythology, is forthcoming Jan 9, 2024 with Quill Tree/HarperCollins. Her translation of a Chinese picture book and a middle grade coming-of-age novel will publish with Levine Querido in Fall 2023 and Spring 2024, respectively.

Kelly is a freelance translator for The New York Times for Kids, a regular contributor to the WorldKidLit Blog, and an active member of the SCBWI, ALTA, ELTNA, and Author’s Guild.
