Joan Lewis

Joan has always loved being amongst young children, and introducing them to some of the best stories in the world. She has worked in schools as a teacher and headteacher both in Germany, and in different parts of England and Wales. For the past twenty years she has made her home in the Languedoc area of Southern France., where the utter peace and beauty of her surroundings provide plenty of stimulation for writing stories and blogging about life in France. That is, when the hunters aren't discharging their rifles. At such time her language has been known to become rather too 'colourful.'

Her first published novel, 'Because You Were There' concerns the British Windrush scandal in which British immigrants from the Caribbean were unjustly treated. She witnessed this from the very beginning as a young teacher in a special needs(E.S.N) school in the beautiful Georgian city of Bath. She well remembers her pupils there, including one very special teenager from the Caribbean who wrote poetry. Does it not make your blood boil that such a bright pupil could be so cruelly misjudged. Joan began to wonder. whether her ex pupil had been caught up in later life, by all this hostility towards people of the Windrush generation. She decided to write this pupil's story, as it might well have been. She hopes that by reading it , you will vow to make Britain and the world a better and fairer place for all its citizens.

Her second novel ,'Ruby Tuesdays' asks why so many young people experience unhappiness and mental health problems in Britain today. Can't we do better for them? Eva suggests that we can. Part mystery as Eva searches for her lost son Sam who is sick; and part romance, as Ella , the unhappy daughter of a successful politician, falls in love with him. It will make you laugh and cry as their story unfolds.
