Kairen Griffiths

Kairen began her State Registered Nurse training at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel in January 1980. After working for several years in the east end of London, she moved to Aberdeen, Scotland and trained as a District Nurse. She gained a degree in Community Nursing from Robert Gordon’s University in 1995 and she obtained a master’s degree in Palliative Care Nursing from the University of Stirling in 2010. Kairen began looking after adults with Cystic Fibrosis in 1993 and spent the next twenty-six years devoting her career to this special group of patients.

She retired in September 2019 and wrote a book about her experiences in the field of Cystic Fibrosis: ‘The World of Sixty-Five Roses’. In March 2020, Kairen joined the NHS Vaccination team in Banchory where she worked for just over a year.

In April 2023, Kairen's second book, "Memories from the Frontline", was published, comprising interviews from NHS Health workers about their experiences of working through the COVID-19 pandemic.

In March 2019 Kairen won the runner-up award for the ‘UK Nurse of the Year’ in London. She lives in Banchory, near Aberdeen, with her husband and has three grown up children.
