Erika Brown is a blend of sugar and spice. She has been on an intentional journey of personal growth and development since January 2011. Erika spent the first 10 years of her journey striving towards the finish line marking her “arrival” through going to college; getting out of debt; building her resume; service to others; checking off the “healing” to-do list boxes; buying a house; having children and getting married; building the savings account; starting small businesses; investing in coaches, courses, certifications, and reading the books; and learning wellness tools and practices. In September 2021, Erika was diagnosed with Conversion Disorder. Her first what she calls, “episode” occurred during her pregnancy with her firstborn in the late summer of 2011. Over the years the “episodes” increased in their variation of symptoms to the point where in September 2021, she lost full control of her physical body. She was grateful for a diagnosis that provided a depth of understanding as she’d had several hospital visits as a result of the “episodes” over the 10 years but the causes and diagnoses were always different as a result of the fluctuation of the symptoms. This was a showstopper for Erika as she’d become accustomed to going like the Energizer bunny. Pausing and slowing down was painful as it created space for her mind to wander, the internal narrative tape to play, and made room for her to feel. Erika used busyness as her buffer, her armor, her excuse, and her safe space. It made her feel worthy, important, needed, valuable…enough. Losing it crushed Erika and she went into the darkness. Through therapy, her Husband, her Mother, her children, her parents, her community, prescription medication to begin and now an herbal remedy, embodiment experiences, studying Humand Design and Gene Keys, the culmination of the healing work/practices she did over the last 11.5 years, and her writing…she made it through the darkness and into life anew. Erika wants to use what she’s been through as a learning opportunity and is now passionate about cultivating a lifestyle where she can rise and thrive.
