Edmar Bernardes

About the Author

Dr. Edmar Bernardes (also known as Dr. DaSilva), because of his Portuguese ancestry, grew up bilingual in Portuguese/American English. He writes and reads very well in both Portuguese and English. The author also speaks and reads Italian well (and writes some) and has a good knowledge of German and Esperanto.

The author did all his higher education in the United States. The author also spent a few months in Italy and learned Italian and seven months in Germany with his late husband, Dr. Robert N. Kvašňák, where he studied German. He also learned German and Esperanto from Dr. Robert N. Kvašňák. In the United States, with the guidance of Professor and American Linguist Dr. Robert N. Kvašňák, who was a professor and linguist, Ed continued to study German and Esperanto under Dr. Kvašňák. Along with Dr. Kvašňák (a professional translator), Ed also worked as a translator and interpreter from Portuguese into English and from English into Portuguese between 1995 and 2000.

Life-Changing

In 1999, after having published the books Viagens Dentro de Mim e do Universo (Voyage Inside Myself and the Universe), Astros e Estrelas (Stars & Planets), and Sentimentos e Paixões (Feelings & Passions), Ed decided to pursue a bachelor's in history, a master's in geography, and a doctoral degree in geography education. When working on his doctoral degree in geography education with the guidance of the university professor Dr. Penelope J. Fritzer and the university professor Dr. Robert N. Kvašňák at Florida Atlantic University in Florida, Dr. Bernardes also worked as a university professor for around eighteen years, teaching geography at the university level for Broward College and Palm Beach State College in Florida. He has also taught geography education and history education to education students at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

In 2002 Ed published Perdido em Berlim (Lost in Berlin), a collection of short stories and chronicles written in Berlin when Ed and Robb N. Kvašňák lived in Germany. As a university professor of geography, Dr. Bernardes has published several academic articles in academic journals in collaboration with Dr. Robert N. Kvašňák. Dr. Bernardes, in collaboration with Dr. Robert N. Kvašňák, also wrote a pedagogical chapter on education about Brazil in a pedagogy book on education in different countries around the world.

In 2017, Edmar decided to stop teaching at the university level and started a small inn to have time to help Dr. Kvašňák, who became ill, and also focus more on researching his historical book about his family that took him fifteen years to finish between writing and researching. During his research, Dr. Bernardes had the guidance of the genealogist and lawyer Iácones Batista Vargas, who was also the preface writer of the historical book.

Publications

The author published in 2022 Açores de Minas (Azores of Minas), a historical and genealogical book that tells the history of the Azoreans (in these cases those coming from the islands of Pico and Santa Maria) and other Portuguese from the Guimarães Region in northern Portugal, Portuguese who came to colonize the southern region of Minas and the center-western region of Minas Gerais in Brazil. The author's origins (ancestry) are connected with the Portuguese regions of the Azores (Islands of Pico and Santa Maria) and Guimarães e Viseu in northern Portugal. And also, in 2022, the author published Laços de Família (Family Ties), a collection of epic poems connected with the historical genealogy book Açores de Minas.
