David A. Neel

David Neel is a celebrated Kwakiutl artist and author, whose career spans four decades. His work combines traditional values with contemporary techniques. Born in 1960 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Neel is a multi-media artist: a carver, jeweler, photographer and author.

He descends from a renowned lineage of artists, including David Neel Senior, Ellen Neel, Mungo Martin, and Charlie James. His writing and art explore themes of cultural continuity, identity, and resilience. His art has been exhibited internationally, and is included in numerous public collections. This is his fourth book about First Nations culture.

Neel’s writing bridges the gap between the traditional world and the modern age. He has spent a lifetime discovering the culture of his people, so he is able to bring ancient narratives to life in a contemporary voice.
