Lynn E. McElfresh

Lynn was born into family of storytellers and married into a family with a story to tell. She grew up in a university environment in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. She married a fellow University of Illinois graduate whose family has summered on Grenell Island in the beautiful Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence River every year without fail since 1875. Lynn began her career writing contemporary novels for middle-schoolers. Then, history intruded into her contemporary world.

While doing research as the island historian for the island association, Lynn fell in love with the past and the seed for the Thousand Islands Series was planted. She and her husband have 2 grown children and 3 granddaughters. Lynn spends late spring through early fall with her husband and a wonderful community of islanders among 70 cottages on Grenell Island. She spends the rest of her year in Dunedin, Florida when she is not traveling to some exotic spot in the world. Lynn and her husband have visited all seven continents, over 80 countries, and all 50 states. But sharing the history, lore and beauty of the Thousand Islands in each novel is her passion!
