George Koons III

George Koons is an attorney and owner of Koons Law Group Ltd. Until his mother passed away unexpectedly at a relatively young age, George specialized in defending complex product liability lawsuits for motor vehicle manufacturers. When his mother died, he found he wasn’t ready or able to deal with the loss – practically or legally. Like many people in his situation, he was lost in the unfamiliar world of coping with a loved one’s death while trying to accomplish the many practical and legal tasks that wouldn't wait for his grief to end. With the intent of making the loss of a loved one easier on others, he decided to use his newly gained knowledge and legal expertise to simplify the many practical and legal issues that accompany a loved one’s death. What to Do When Your Loved One Dies and his upcoming planner, I’m Gone – What's Next?, are results of his exploration and findings.

George earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Northern Colorado and a Juris Doctor degree from Whittier College School of Law in California. He was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for Advanced Legal Writing and is the recipient of the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award and the American Bar Association’s Military Pro Bono Project Outstanding Services Award.

George served in the U.S. Marine Corps, Second Marine Air Wing, and currently provides pro bono work for active military members and their families. He is married and the father of three boys. George lives in the Colorado mountains, where he can often be found hiking, biking, skiing, and exploring.
