Javier J. Amores is a postdoctoral researcher attached to the Department of Sociology and Communication at the University of Salamanca. He is a member of the Audiovisual Content Observatory (OCA), Consolidated Research Unit of the Castilla y León Regional Government (Spain). Javier holds a Bachelor's Degree in Audiovisual Communication, a Master's Degree in Audiovisual Communication Research with Extraordinary Prize, and an International PhD (cum laude) in Communication with Extraordinary Prize by the University of Salamanca.
He is currently doing his postdoctoral research period at the same university, after having presented his dissertation, entitled "From representation to hatred. Development of new strategies to understand hate speech towards migrants and refugees. Detecting, measuring and analysing visual frames, attitudes and messages rejecting migration". His main lines of research are focused on the study of news media and social platforms, the media representation of migration, hate speech, misinformation, and computational methods applied in social sciences.
In addition to being a social researcher, Javier is an Advanced Technician in Image and Sound and Graphic Design, areas in which he has a long professional experience. Javier has been part of the team of 11 national and international funded research projects, and has published a total of 25 publications, 13 of them in academic journals with anonymous peer review process in the fields of communication, information science and social sciences. He has also published 9 book chapters and conference proceedings chapters. Javier has also presented 36 communications in national and international research conferences or academic activities, and in 7 of them as an invited speaker.
Javier is a member of the International Communication Association (ICA) and the Spanish Association for Communication Research (AE-IC).
