Marlys West is a poet, writer and essayist. Her most recent book of poems, "The Vital Function of Constant Narrative," won first place and was published in 2023 by V Press LC. The University of Akron Press published her previous book of poems, "Notes for a Late-Blooming Martyr," and her first chapbook was an award-winning manuscript called, "Evangeline was a Beauty Queen and Other Stories." She was a Michener Fellow at the University of Texas, a Hodder fellow at Princeton University and an NEA grant recipient in poetry. She has had work published in many journals and anthologies including, "Alaska Quarterly Review," "The American Poetry Review," "Best American Poetry," “Blackbird,” ”Fence," "Indiana Review," "Mississippi Review," "Notre Dame Review," "Ploughshares," and " Willow Review," among others.
