Jacquelyn Lenox Tuxill

Jacquelyn Tuxill was born in Chengdu, China, to medical missionary parents. In 1944 the family escaped the war engulfing West China by flying over "the Hump" to India, where Jackie turned three years old. The family eventually settled in West Virginia. Graduating cum laude from Muskingum College with a BS in Biology, Jackie worked in medical research while her husband attended medical school. While living in Alaska for five years in the 1970s, she found a love of nature and outdoor adventure which led to thirty-five years of environmental work in New England. Jackie completed course work for a Master's degree in Resource Administration and Management at the University of NH and served as policy director for the Audubon Society of NH from 1980 to 1988. Moving to Vermont the next year, she worked as an environmental consultant specializing in project management. Jackie has a son and a daughter and lives in central Vermont on the western slope of the Green Mountains. She has made five return trips to China. "Whispers from the Valley of the Yak" is her first book. A chapter adapted from her book, appeared in the 2019 anthology, "True Stories: The Narrative Project, Vol I."
