For 18 years until 2013 my partner Meg and I ran a small consultancy in the community, health and environmental sectors.
In 2012 I self-published Beyond Fear and Loathing: local politics at work, an account of local community activism in the area where I then lived. The book was well received by many, loathed by some. It won a regional writing award and I was not sued.'
Since 2013 (with a two year COVID break) I have presented more than 70 Life Writing workshops – creative non-fiction for memoir, autobiography, biography, family history, local history, personal essay, travel diary or feature article writing.
'In Life There is Luck: A memoir of an ordinary life with reflections on memoir writing,' and 'A Pocket Guide to Memoir Writing,' are responses to what I have learned through these workshops and my understanding of the needs of workshop participants.
I work as a mediator, assisting people to find a solution to their conflict rather than having a solution imposed on them, and am active in the local community in a variety of ways. I find joy in personal relationships, ideas and nature.
In 2016 we moved to Kyogle, a small town in northern New South Wales, Australia. Before that we had lived at Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast and in Canberra.
