I’ve always had an ease with words. I cherish the images they create and the complex emotions they evoke. How delightful, when the power of one’s imagination freed into words, enables another to see or experience it. Amazing.
My writing career blossomed as a young child, scribbling crazy poetry for my dad on his lunch napkin. I’d nestle it beneath the bologna sandwich or peanut butter cookies as his silly noonday surprise. Not to be outdone, his crafty reply would be found by me the next morning. Smiles and laughter assigned the honest value to those early writings.
My course has been colored by many remarkable words: student athlete; mother of six; dusty ballparks, concession stand burgers dripping with ketchup; volleyball, basketball, softball and soccer Mom. Throw in incredibly beautiful friends, countless beach vacations, profound loss with heavy tears, long tennis matches on blazing hot days and therapeutic digging in the dirt, all supported by a deeply spiritual community to balance the list.
After 17 years in the legal field, I’ve deposited my word print across the landscape of many lovely hearts. There I discovered the critical importance of words timely spoken and wisely withheld. Many days invited a compassionate response to a distressed client to restore their peace, bubbling up as a prayer of hope. Conversely, I witnessed the damage to relationships, destroyed by reckless and unkind expressions long before clients set foot in our office.
A word-wave washes up and the sand under my feet feels good. Writing has reemerged from a heart more experienced than the young lunch-napkin author. Grandchildren now stretch my soul, hug my neck, and write great new words. My favorite yet, is my endearing title with a fresh phonetic twist, “Grammae.” I play hard to live up to that classy spelling.
Through it all, the fabric of my life is held together by faith and grace, lavished by Love. Threads of holy purpose and destiny draw me into tomorrow, seeking the fulness of my Creator’s intentions for me. His words, full of life and hope, anchor me.
The publishing of Doxology; A Collective and I Am Not an Oops- Journeys in Faith, Hope & Transformation, gratefully launched the dream, alongside a rich community of diverse and gifted writers, who challenge and call me higher. Whether on napkins, scratch pads, or computer, the future invites more words and I’m excited to comply.
Thank you for sharing the journey.
