Thomas A. Crowell Esq.

Thomas A. Crowell is an entertainment and intellectual property attorney who bridges creative practice and legal strategy. A former television reporter and producer, he advises filmmakers, showrunners, comic book publishers, musicians, game developers, and visual artists, with client work appearing on Nickelodeon, Discovery, Starz, TLC, SyFy, WE, and the Smithsonian Channel. He is the series editor of Focal Press’s "Pocket Lawyer for…" series and the author of The Pocket Lawyer for Filmmakers and The Pocket Lawyer for Comic Book Creators.

A leading voice in creator education, Thomas is the architect of New York Comic Con’s acclaimed Continuing Legal Education Masterclass Series and has taught comic book legal practice at conventions nationwide since 2015. He teaches Copyright, Intellectual Property, and Media Law at CUNY School of Law and co-created the Indie Film Clinic at Cardozo Law, where he taught clinical law for years. His training programs have reached producers and attorneys across the U.S. and the Caribbean, including designing the Dominican Republic’s first media law course at the invitation of the country’s former president. He also served as the inaugural Executive Director of New Jersey Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
