Anna A. Berman

Anna A. Berman is an Associate Professor in Slavonic Studies at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Clare College. She received her BA from Brown University, her MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and her PhD from Princeton University. She is the author of Siblings in Tolstoy and Dostoevsky: The Path to Universal Brotherhood (Northwestern University Press, 2015), The Family Novel in Russia and England, 1800-1880 (Oxford University Press, 2022), and editor of Tolstoy in Context (Cambridge University Press, 2022). She has published numerous articles on Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, the family novel, the relationship of science and literature in nineteenth-century Russia, and operatic adaptations of Russian literary classics. Her current work focuses on Russia's greatest forgotten novelist, Nadezhda Khvoshchinskaya (1821-1889).
