Kara Vance, author and optometric technician, is on a mission to communicate the importance of eye health in a fun and accessible way.

Kara, also a co-business owner, is married to an optometrist. After purchasing a children’s book for their optical’s waiting room, she knew she could write something more authentic yet entertaining and her idea “Why Should I Get an Eye Exam? A Poetic Reminder for the Entire Family” was born.

Kara hopes to help families and children take their eye health seriously and make eye exams as much of a priority as a routine visit to their primary care doctor. If an eye problem goes undetected a long time, it’s difficult to restore the vision lost. She also hopes to familiarize children with an eye doctor visit so that their experience isn’t stressful or scary.

When she isn’t writing informative stories for children, Kara enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, or watching TV shows. Raised in the Caribbean island of Barbados, she lives with her husband and children in Chicago, Illinois. Why Should I Get an Eye Exam is Kara’s debut children’s book with more to follow.
