Dr. Swami Karunamoorthy is currently the Professor of practice in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Washington University in Saint Louis. He is also a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at Saint Louis University, St. Louis. He received his undergraduate degree from Madras Institute of Technoloy (MIT, India) and master's degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT, India). He received his doctoral degree from Washington University in St. Louis. His industry experience includes working in Helicopter Design Bureau at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Bangalore, India. His pedagogical experience includes teaching Control Systems, Vibrations, Dynamics, Statics and Mechanics of materials, Wind Energy Systems, Aircraft Performance, Aircraft Structures, Composite materials, and Engineering Cost Analysis. He leads the ABET accreditation of engineering programs in McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He is serving ABET as program evaluator and also served as Commissioner for both Engineering and Technology accreditation commissions. Dr. Karunamoorthy's research interests include helicopter dynamics, applied aerodynamics, mechanics of solids, composites, kinematics, engineering education, and assessment methods for program continuous improvement.
