Welton Rotz

Welton Rotz has been a sculptor of stone and metal, a blacksmith, licensed general contractor, boat builder and teacher. In the early 1960s he pursued graduate studies in Theology. Disenchanted with church doctrine, Welton did not complete his degree, preferring to seek his spirituality through meditation, extensive research, and his creativity. He went on to study psychotherapy.

Born in 1940, Welton lived with relatives on a wheat and cattle farm for six months before moving to the Philippines with his college professor parents at the age of nine. After four years overseas, Welton returned to the states. He spent every summer during high school and college farming with his uncle and cousin in western Kansas. Sculpting and sailing have been his passion for many years.

In 2015 Welton was diagnosed with a rare, progressive amyloid neurological disease which severely impacted his hands and feet.

He lives in San Francisco with his wife Barbara Stuart and an Icelandic sheepdog named Mikilee. There, he types stories with a stick held between his bent fingers.
