Well before Guy Thomas invented of satellite AIS (S-AIS) and authored the C-SIGMA concept, the basis for Task #1 of the US National Space Policy of 2010, he served on, over, and under the seas leading intelligence collection operations in warships, aircraft, and submarines with a year+ in hostile waters and 2,000+ hours in unfriendly airspace in USN and USAF spy planes.

He lead the mission system acceptance tests of the USN's EP-3E and the USAF's RC-135W, the first 2 aircraft to have automated mission systems. As a result, he is authorized to wear both USN and USAF wings simultaneously, a unique honor. The cap to his career was undercover work for the FBI that netted 23 arrests.

He has authored “A Silent Warrior Steps Out of the Shadows,” a memoir of his 35+ years in the classified world and "New Sentinels of the Seas, Satellite AIS and the Birth of Global Maritime Awareness" which describes how S-AIS came to be and where it is leading the world.
