After his Oxford University D.Phil in English economic history Greg Finch worked in IT and business consulting for over 20 years. He is the author of numerous articles and book reviews on aspects of English history between the 16th and 20th centuries, published in journals from Devon to Northumberland. In 2013 he edited A Pack of Idle Sparks, a collection of early 18th century letters on social history in the North of England. His book The Blacketts in 2021 grew out of an award-winning conservation and heritage project he helped to develop, promote and run near his home in rural Northumberland. The book was awarded the Wadsworth Prize for outstanding contribution to British business history by the Business Archives Council. His 'The Making of the Hexhamshire Landscape' of 2022 charts the broad sweep of history of a beautiful corner of Northumberland from the last ice age to the present day.
