Larry Kitchen was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He received a BFA from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Arts from The University of Texas at Tyler. He worked as a commercial illustrator with a large aerospace corporation in his early career. He was trusted with client projects, including artist renderings of the Space Shuttle for NASA, the Stealth bomber for the Pentagon, and numerous other high-profile clientele. Larry spent over thirty years teaching Art and Advertising as a college professor in Texas.
Larry has illustrated several children's books such as Good Enough and Doomsday Latte. He then wrote his first novelette, Across the Huber Sea -- the second in that series -- with Lucas Kitchen, his son, for middle-grade readers. Illustrating that book included over 60 images. His career took a turn during the pandemic when he began to write his first novel, The Perth Incident. Finding the joy of writing was a surprise, and consuming. By 2022 he was into the second of that series, The Munich Deployment.
Over the past decade, he has painted and written from abroad, taking trips to Great Britain, Iceland, and Germany, where he was an artist at Hilmsen Art Academy. His work from these art excursions has been the fuel and inspiration for his most recent published works, which include a range of illustrated books for young and adult readers.
He has taught and lectured at universities and colleges in The United States and Europe. Larry lives with his wife Laurie in Kilgore, Texas.
