ABOUT THE AUTHOR, MONTE QUINN LATER
From childhood, Monte Later has been led by his insatiable curiosity. Too young to be a member, Monte was mascot to the Utah Mineralogical Society. With members of that group he ventured into the Utah desert and made discoveries of his own.
His studies in geology were interrupted when he took over his father’s grocery business. During this time he was appointed to
the Idaho State Parks Board where he chaired for twelve years, he was also chair of the Library and Museum Association of
Yellowstone Park. During this time he founded the Yellowstone Institute of higher interpretive learning located in Lamar valley.
As a client and friend of Glen Exum (Exum School of Mountaineering) he climbed the Tetons many times. He also climbed the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Jim Klobuchar, writer for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, took Monte on many adventures as his photographer, including a search for Bigfoot.
After he sold the grocery business Monte became a consultant for ArtCo in Rexburg then worked independently for their suppliers. He was very successful as a consultant but to continue he would have had to live far away from his beloved Idaho, so he decided to sell cars for the Ford dealer here in IdahoFalls. Determined to improve the image of car salesmen he soon had a clientele so large he could handle no more. Except for one. He sold Marilyn Hoff Hansen her first “art cart” a nice red van.
“Life can be a beautiful adventure. And curiosity is the greatest gift we can endow to our children.”
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR, MARILYN HOFF HANSEN
Marilyn Hoff Hansen earned a BFA from the University of Colorado and that was the beginning of an education. When the youngest child began school she converted the empty dairy barn into a center for art. Downstairs for sculpture; upstairs for
painting, drawing group, workshops and shows. Among several public sculptures, her signature piece is the boy and his dogs
in front of the library in Idaho Falls, a memorial for Wilson Rawles, author of Where the Red Fern Grows.
Marilyn was among those chosen to exhibit at the Contemporary Art from Idaho show at the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Her work has been marketed in Jackson Hole, Boise and Santa Fe, NM among other venues. She illustrated three books for Deana Lowe Jensen. Her art adventures have taken her from Taiwan to Switzerland.
