In the family food manufacturing business Watson, Inc. Gavin moved up from maintenance to engineering and eventually vice president of operations, spearheading employee engagement. As a food manufacturer, Gavin has emancipated teams to design and run energy audits, and continuous improvement based on Lean and Agile processes and self-organizing self-directed teams, and open space-style input from all levels of the organization. In 2019 his family company sold for $89 million. He is now on the board of several organizations, where he focuses on conscious culture and leadership development.
Along with several members of the Connecticut Chapter of Conscious Capitalism Gavin helped to design a Conscious Leadership Network program for business, non-profit, and business education professionals interested in co-learning more about Conscious Business.
Each of us spends about 90,000 hours of our lives working. We financially compensate people for the work they do but we cannot compensate them for the 40 hours of their lives they spend with us every week. In recognition of this, we must provide a fulfilling workplace and ensure that those hours are spent consciously and with purpose. There is much that can be done to make work more intrinsically rewarding and fulfilling which just happens to make a business more successful.
