Tim Dunlop

Tim Dunlop has been working in the mainstream media and various iterations of online spaces for over twenty years, having established a presence, and against the odds, made a living as independent writer and researcher. A pioneer of online journalism/writing in Australia, he has worked as an academic and has a PhD in political philosophy. His work reflects a deep interest in and commitment to better ways of doing democracy, and that theme unites work that ranges across politics, media, popular culture, language, work and technology. He has written four books, and the latest is an analysis of the community independents movement that is transforming Australian politics. Leading journalist and educator, Margaret Simons, calls it 'thoughtful, provocative and historically informed'. Dunlop lives in Naarm-Melbourne in Australia and has a new book coming 13 October 2026 through MUP. It is called, The Culture Wars: Identity, Belonging and the Transformation of Australian Politics.
