Miriam Jordan

Greetings all,

My name is Miriam Jordan, a retired educator. I love to travel, read, and write. I'm a member of two literary organizations. SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) mission is to provide a love and platform for writing children's books. The organization is divided into regions of which I belong to the Mid-Atlantic. It includes the states of Maryland, West Virginia, and Delaware. MWA (Maryland Writers' Association) vision is to bring together aspiring and established writers of all genres.

I volunteered over fifteen years in the Women's and Children's Gift Shop in a hospital in Cobb County, GA. Reviewing the supply of books on display sparked my interest in writing children's books. I began writing after attending a SCBWI convention in Los Angeles, CA.

In September 2021, I was appointed to the Area council on Aging in Charles County, MD. The council was established to address the needs and promote the betterment of seniors in the county. We work diligently to develop an understanding and support programs to benefit this population.

In November 2022, my debut chapter book, "Welcome to Bump's World" was published.

The main character, Bump, is an inquisitive and active nine-year-old basketball player. He loves his dog, Commander, and his friend, Archie. He has one big dream. Will he realize his dream? Welcome to Bump's World is a realistic fiction. The core of the story is true with embellishment. An excellent subtitle for this book is 'Believing in Self'.

"Mickie:Adventures in the Grasslands of Africa" is a picture book. It was published in January 2023. Mickie is an adorable calf elephant. She loves playing soccer with her friends or practicing alone. Enjoy a day with Mickie. Is there danger in store for her? How will she handle the situations? Mickie is clever. This book is a real page turner, full of energy and colorful pictures. In addition to the text, Mickie, the "Coloring Book" is available. Children will love to color the scenes and images taken from the text.
