Nubian Star

There are many ways to describe Nubian Star, but none more poignant than the word driven! Nubian Star was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. Early in her life, she had an affinity to the arts and words. Reading was a way to escape the hardships of growing up in Milwaukee’s inner city. She began performing spoken word poetry, where she competed in slams and toured the Midwest with the Rustbelt Team. During her time as a spoken word artist, she wrote two chapbooks.

A lover of all thing’s art, Nubian Star began painting in 2006 and through this medium, she has used her art to influence her community. She received recognition from the Mayor of Milwaukee for her works in her neighbourhood.

Nubian Star has been a crocheter for over 20 years. She utilizes her love of yarn to create handcrafted works such as blankets, winter accessories, clothing and intricate purses. Everything she creates are one-of-a-kind pieces crafted with the specific intent to provide the feelings of warmth, comfort, and love to those that wear her creations.

Writing has always been a major passion for Nubian Star, and she thoroughly enjoys using her imagination to create intricately woven stories. A lover of writers such as Stephen King, Shel Silverstein, Nicholas Sansbury Smith, and Ntozake Shange, she uses her wide range of interest and knowledge to create mind binding works of fiction. A homebody, crafter, and domestic goddess extraordinaire, Nubian Star spends her free time enjoying creating moments with her family as she observes the world, waiting for the next strike of inspiration.
