Thomas Edward Pizur

Thomas was a young child when his family moved to a poor, working class neighborhood in Youngstown Ohio. What he found there left a lasting impression on him.

"I will always remember the love and warmth of the people in the neighborhood. I felt like I could go up to any house, stranger or not, be cared for and fed with the best that house could offer. Many of these families gave us food off their own tables. Todgether, we were all poor and lived under the threat of eviction. Black or white did not matter. In that neighborhood, I learned about unconditional giving and love."

After a few years, his family moved to Lake Zurich, IL. As he grew older, he began searching for that kind of unconditional love. His path led him to explore various spiritual traditions, Catholicism, Buddism and Taoism. He studied and taught many forms of martial arts. But that old sense of belonging and purpose eluded him. Then in the 1980's, he watched his older brother, Andrew, struggle to recieve veterans benefits, and then fight the VA to keep them.

Since 1987, Thomas has been fortunate enough to assist thousands of US Vets and their families. Listening to their stories, the idea for The Kings Way Home was born.
