Deacon Roger Filips was ordained in the Archdiocese of Omaha in 2017 and serves in rural parishes in northeast Nebraska. His chief charisms and interests are preaching and teaching; proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and explaining how the Catholic Church is the method Jesus left us for our salvation. He wrote this book over several years while teaching CCD and not finding any satisfactory textbooks that taught the faith clearly and completely. Although the book is written at an adult level, teens do comprehend and benefit from this material if they have adult help.
Deacon Filips strongly believes that we all benefit from a better understanding of who God is and what the Catholic Church is. This book is ideal for religious education and RCIA, as well as anyone who wants to understand the faith better. All the important subjects of the faith are covered in a compact, organized book that anyone can read. In addition to the important facts about the faith, he likes to include a touch of the mystical that leaves the reader something to ponder after they put the book down.
Deacon Filips has a gift for explaining complex subjects in an engaging and understandable way. He is a trained optometrist who also published two editions of a popular eye care book for doctors with a similar approach, explaining clinical topics in an organized, concise book, in outline format with no fluff.
