Pen and Sword books approached the Market Deeping Model Railway Club with the concept of a series of books following the vandalism of our annual show https://www.stamfordmercury.co.uk/news/modellers-secure-four-book-deal-after-vandalism-setback-9289555/ and thoughts were put to creating a differentiator in a busy market. Previously a technical author with a large international computer support team, David Ashwood came forward with the concept of blending the diverse skills inherent in a model club faced with a rebuilding task, along with hints and tips in a style representing someone helping over the shoulder, rather than the stiffer delivery of some authors. David first attended a model railway show at Central Hall Westminster in 1974 and was hooked into the hobby. Various iterations of indoor and outdoor railway layouts followed through subsequent family life. Being a geography graduate of Bedford College London has brought a holistic overview, and as one time member of the GWR Preservation Group in west London 1:1 scale knowledge was brought into the fold. Finally part time selling of kits and models at UK shows brought extensive exposure to the modern modelling scene.
The range will now extend through five books covering, layout building, construction of model buildings, super detail and 3D printing, the major club build project and accompanying history of Euston station London and finally projects undertaken in the new TT120 scale.
