Eric Isaacson has taught music theory at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music since 1993. He has lectured on music visualization around the world and is available to consult with publishers, editors, and authors on the topic.
During his time at IU, Isaacson has served as chair of music theory and director of graduate studies, and is a faculty member in IU's Cognitive Science Program. His articles appear in the Journal of Music Theory, Music Theory Online, Kunsttexte.de, and elsewhere. He earned a BA in music and German at Luther College and the MM and PhD at Indiana University.
Isaacson has served as editor of the journal Music Theory Online and treasurer of the Society for Music Theory. He was principal designer for Music Fundamentals Online, a web-course in music fundamentals and co-principal investigator for the NSF-funded Variations2: The IU Digital Music Library.
Other research interests include computer applications in music analysis and pedagogy, post-tonal music, music of Steve Reich, and gender equity in higher education.
Outside academia, he has served as Interim Executive Director of Louisville Ballet, founder and conductor of the Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble, and conductor of the Brass Band at Indiana University. He enjoys spending time with his family, travel, hiking, international cuisine, and single malt scotch.
