Sandra Baker Baron

Sandra Baker Baron’s passion is working with people and coaching them to better understand their giftedness, talents, and interests. Bridging the Mississippi, her first novel tells how to bridge differences in race. Her writing brings a grassroots understanding of diversity. Storytelling in her novel creates real-life examples of how to recognize discrimination and reach out to mend the wrong.

Sandra, a seasoned teacher of thirty-five years in education, has a unique gift of influencing people through her writing and speaking skills. In the late 90’s she reached out to Kazak and Russian teachers, exposing them to strategies for teaching the whole child. On her vacations and summer break, Sandra led writing and teaching conferences in Taraz, Kazakhstan 2002,2004,2006,2009. Sandra continued to show her passion for teaching by traveling to Bangkok, Thailand in 2008 to give ESL presentations. She shared life lessons she had learned working with teens and other cultures in her blog Sandi’s Impressions 2009 to 2016.

She continues to address racial injustice through her involvement with nonprofit organizations like Crossing Color Lines, One Race, and Fellowship Missionary Church’s outreach to the Black community in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She lives her life initiating conversations on exploring racial justice and offering ways to recognize one’s own prejudices.

Part of her awareness is grounded in creativity. Discovering who you are through creative outlets brings a new understanding of self-worth, God’s purpose for our lives, and how to reflect on the past to grow in the future. The creative arts guide her into a deeper relationship with God. Sandra is an oil painter and writer because these creative activities are closely related and bring her closer to the Creator. Her intent is to use the arts as a bridge to understanding who we are in Christ Jesus.

Sandra graduated with a BA and MA in education with majors in English and Speech. She continues to use her writing and speaking voice to point out the severe discrimination that our Black and Brown brothers and sisters suffer today. Her book was written with the hope and intent to offer a continued understanding of the heartache and limitations that result in a White preference society.
