Steven Payson has had about 40 years of experience in economics, as a private consultant, and, since 1992, as a U.S. government economist. He has also taught economics at several universities in the Washington, DC area, and has written many books, journal articles, book chapters in edited volumes, and government reports. In 2007 Dr. Payson founded, and spent the next 11 years directing, the nonprofit organization: Association for Integrity and Responsible Leadership in Economics and Associated Professions (AIRLEAP.org), for which Deirdre McCloskey chairs its Board of Directors. He has since remained active on AIRLEAP’s Board of Directors. Dr. Payson has organized AIRLEAP training seminars on Ethics, Integrity, and Responsible Leadership in Economics, with a wide range of distinguished speakers, including the heads of economics agencies in U.S. government. Dr. Payson received a doctorate in economics from Columbia University with specializations in econometrics, economic development, and technological change; an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science; and a B.A. in Mathematics and Bio-psychology from Wesleyan University.
