Jan Lightfoot PhD

Dr. Jan Lightfoot is a public servant who provides services to comfort others with the same comfort she has received. She has 52 years of civilian and federal work service. She continues to serve humanity as an Educator, Chaplain, Advocate, and Mental Health Professional licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services to perform psychological testing, psychotherapy, and social services. These services are provided to clients regardless of age, race, creed, kind, or sexual orientation thru Vine Dwellers Ministries, INC, The Wholeness Foundation, and The Vine Network.

Dr. Lightfoot developed an occupational mental health disease during her federal employment. This status was fought with distressing and harmful retaliation due to the government system not wanting to pay her for her occupational injury. This retaliation went from harassment to being life-threatening. Consequently, her experiences as a member of the mental health diagnosed community, and her professional training have given her great understanding, compassion, and passion for helping to bring this disease to the forefront of treatment. Fortunately, her ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) prepared her to survive covert mortal actions under the guise of mental health services. Thus, Dr. Lightfoot is committed to developing good mental health practices because she knows first-hand that “Good Psychiatry Matters.” She created the website: GetTheHelpYouNeed.net for advocacy and awareness on overcoming barriers to good mental health care.

Dr. Lightfoot holds Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral level CHEA-accredited degrees and post-doctoral certifications in EMDR, Trauma-Informed, Sexual Dysfunction, Anger Management, Spiritual Care, and Neurofeedback Therapies. She has written several professional publications and self-help books, including her doctoral dissertation, that found a solid paternal attachment lessens the adverse effects of father absence in black adolescent students. Thus, she encourages fathers who are absent in their children’s homes to be present in their children’s hearts by developing a strong attachment. A strong paternal attachment, good psychiatry, and hope outside her immediate world allowed Dr. Lightfoot to become content and successful. Her greatest desire is to carry this message to others. Dr. Lightfoot is the mother of two sons, grandmother of three, and godmother and mentor for many young people and adults. She resides in Texas.
