SIdney Clarke Jones

As a retired U.S. Military officer, as well as a Construction Manager in the global energy sector, SCJ had the good fortune to tap into over 3 decades of home gardening and self-reliance from all over the world. Traveling to new and foreign lands has allowed him to observe and learn from different cultures, taking the best advice and tips from each.

Self-reliance has always been a bit of a hobby. SCJ learned from his parents and grandparents while living in the great state of Texas. From an early age, he can remember having some sort of garden in the backyard – green beans, black-eyed peas, carrots, okra, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and cucumbers were annual favorites. Occasionally, corn and even popcorn have been grown. Countless hours have been spent shelling peas, picking beans, and of course, pulling weeds.

Sidney has always enjoyed tending to animals, communing with nature, and sharpening essential life skills. He has passed this tradition on to his own family now and enjoys watching the wonderment in his kids’ eyes when they discover the fruits of their labor, so to speak.

The author resides in Texas with his wife, four kids, and a faithful companion Husky.
