M.J. TOBIN

M.J. Tobin is a Chicana storyteller whose love of writing stemmed from growing up in El Paso Texas, Juarez Chihuahua and California. As a child she and her sisters would visit her mother's family in Chapala and Guadalajara. She realized that everywhere she went, people had their own version of the events surrounding the Legend of La Llorona. Everyone seemed to embrace her, everyone made her their own as a part of their culture and storytelling. M.J. Tobin believes La Llorona somehow touched or shaped the lives of every Mexican, it's almost impossible to have grown up around the Mexican or Chicano cultures and not have heard a version of her life and hauntings. To this writer, La Llorona represents happy childhood memories of being with friends and family, gathered around a fire while the adults tell stories of La Llorona and other ghosts which certainly haunt nearby.
