I'm the author of twelve books, including my newest novel, THE WONDERS OF THE LITTLE WORLD, a carnival-themed story about a fortune teller woman who, with her eleven-year-old daughter, embarks on a search for her missing tightrope walker husband. A family story set in the late 1960s, the book combines romance, humor, and road trips across America as the three characters try to discover who they are and where they belong. One reviewer praised the novel, saying: "The Wonders of the Little World is storytelling at its best. The novel is a celebration of the power of love, forgiveness, and resilience. It is an exquisite American novel--a kaleidoscope of America." My previous 2022 novel is SUMMER OF RAIN, SUMMER OF FIRE, set in the turbulent anti-war days of the Vietnam War. The other books are short stories, poetry collections, and a first novel, SPIRITS IN THE GRASS, which won the Midwest Book Award. My roots are Iowa/Wisconsin/Minnesota and my hobbies include rock music, collecting old typewriters, travel (especially to tropical locations), baseball, photography, and catching any Frisbee tossed in my vicinity. I've enjoyed teaching creative writing (or presenting writing workshops) in colleges, high schools, and elementary schools. I've also visited various book clubs to talk about my writing. I'm an occasional writing coach, and, if given the chance, I will type poems on demand for free on my trusty Royal Quiet DeLuxe typewriter. I hope you enjoy my writing!
