Jean Dobbs is the publisher of New Mobility, the leading lifestyle magazine for wheelchair users and the membership publication of United Spinal Association. With authentic storytelling and a culture of peer support, it shows all that is possible after a mobility disability: independence, good health, higher education, employment, travel, relationships, parenting, home ownership, recreation, sports — and everything else life has to offer.
During her tenure, New Mobility has won many awards, including an Independent Press Award from Utne Reader; a Maggie for best buyer’s guide from the Western Publications Association; an Ozzie for best redesign from Folio; a DREAM (Disability Rights in Entertainment, Arts & Media) award from the Disability Rights Legal Center; and several EDI awards for Equality, Dignity and Independence from Easter Seals.
Related projects over the years include publishing two editions of Spinal Network: The Total Wheelchair Resource Book, creating Kids on Wheels, a book and magazine for young wheelchair users and their parents, and launching Life in Action, the former member magazine of United Spinal.
