Joseph W Handley Jr

Joseph W. Handley, Jr., Ph.D., is a global mission leader, pastor, speaker, author, and educator who has spent more than three decades developing leaders and catalyzing collaborative movements around the world.

He serves as CEO of A3, an international network dedicated to accelerating Christ-centered movements through the development of Christ-like leaders across Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and beyond.

Dr. Handley earned his Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, where he also serves as Affiliated Faculty in Mission and Theology. His doctoral research focused on polycentric mission leadership, exploring how leadership can serve alongside multiple centers across the world.

He is the author of Polycentric Mission Leadership, co-editor of Leading Well in Times of Disruption, and co-editor of the forthcoming Mission in Polycentric Perspective (IVP Academic, January 2027). His writing and speaking address themes including global leadership, mission strategy, collaboration, disciple-making, innovation, and the future of the global church.

In addition to his work with A3, Dr. Handley serves as a Catalyst for Leadership Development with the Lausanne Movement and contributes to a variety of international initiatives focused on leadership formation and global mission.

Born and raised in Southern California, Joe and his wife, Silk, have served internationally and have lived in both Turkey and Japan. Together they have three adult children.
