Susan Sandler has spent 30 years working in the non-profit sector, primarily on issues of education reform and educational equity. She is also a licensed clinical social worker. In September 2016, Susan was diagnosed with grade IV glioblastoma and has undergone surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. September 2022 marked the six-year milestone since her diagnosis.
Susan wrote When I First Found Out I Had Cancer as a collection of essays chronicling her experience with illness, from receiving the news that the median survival time of glioblastoma was 18 months to developing new practices throughout her journey of healing and growth. She offers her story with the intention of sharing all she has learned helping others feel less alone. She lives in San Francisco, California with her husband Steve.
