Overcoming a childhood involving generational abuse, and mentally ill parents, D.A. Guzman chose to channel her past into spiritual growth and personal development. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse immediately after high school, then went on to obtain a B.S. in psychology and religion from Indiana Christian University. Years later, she continued her education and received a M.A.in Marriage, Family & Child Counseling from Azusa Pacific University. D.A. worked in a variety of service-related positions, including a therapist, social worker, and private duty nurse. She ran a successful business providing court-mandated services to domestic violence perpetrators and parents charged with abuse. She served as the director of a shelter for victims of domestic violence and at an outreach mental health program for children and the LGBTQ population. In addition, she has taught psychology-related courses at the University of California, Los Angeles and Riverside, and Victor Valley Community College.
Besides writing, D.A. enjoys painting, sculpting and photography.
