Jeffrey B. Wagman

Dr. Jeffrey B. Wagman is a Professor of Psychology at Illinois State University. His research focuses on understanding how the perceptual systems support the performance of everyday (and sometimes not-so-everyday) behavior. He is a recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Lecturer Award, the Illinois State University Outstanding University Researcher Award, and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Invitation Fellowship for Research in Japan. He is the co-author of Sensing and Perceiving (2026), Introduction to Ecological Psychology: A Lawful approach to Perceiving, Acting, and Cognizing (2022) and the co-editor of the Routledge International Handbook of Ecological Psychology (2026) and Perception as Information Detection: Reflections on Gibson’s Ecological Approach to Visual Perception (2019). Together with his students and collaborators, he has published over 135 articles, chapters, book reviews, and conference proceedings, has given over 25 invited lectures at universities around the world, and has made over 135 presentations at local, national, and international conferences. He is an Associate Editor of the journal Ecological Psychology, a consulting editor for Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception & Performance, a co-editor of the Resources in Ecological Psychology Book Series, and an elected member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Ecological Psychology.
