I am a fan of action novels. One of my favorite authors is Jack Higgins. His first book, “The Eagle Has Landed”, became a best-seller and his career took off from there. His books might loosely fit into the genre of historical fiction.
That is the genre that I like to write in.
“The Last Stand” is set in Washington, D.C. in July 1919. Veterans have returned from Northern France. Southern Blacks have moved north. Northern whites feel threatened. The powder keg is about to blow. On July 19, 1919 it does.
As a trial lawyer in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia and a former patrol officer with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, I know Washington, D.C. I know the myths, legends, history and sore spots. I love writing about Washington, D.C. because it is a setting that everyone knows and has an immediate perception of. That setting lends itself to scenes of action, intrigue and violence.
That is what I hope to build on in my novels. My second novel will be called “The Liberators”. The protagonists use watercraft manufactured for World War I to promote their enterprise. The third volume in the series, “Counterattack”, is about the protagonists’ war with intruding bootleggers.
